Leigha-Janae has been dancing around since she could hold on to something for support. Her parents were constantly playing music throughout the house and during car rides – this is where she believes her passion for music and movement stemmed from. It wasn’t until the age of three that Leigha-Janae’s parents enrolled her in dance classes at Paula Aubry School of Dance located in the Kankakee area. There she began her training in ballet, tap, jazz, modern, and pointe and performed in annual productions of The Nutcracker and the studio’s spring recital.
At the age of fifteen, she started commuting to Chicago for more rigorous training. Joel Hall Dancers and Center became Leigha-Janae’s home studio and there she focused on the styles of ballet and urban jazz. She was a part of their Youth Company and after graduating high school, joined the pre-professional Second Company.
While pursing a degree in Performing Arts Management at Columbia College Chicago, Leigha-Janae started training with Lucid Banter Project, a professional performing modern company. She continues to supplement her training by attending technical classes at Joel Hall, Joffrey Ballet, and Lou Conte Dance Studio.
Now, Leigha-Janae is thrilled to share her passion for movement and dance with the students of The Center for Dance.
